About us

We care about propulsion.

For over 75 years, we have been designing and manufacturing high-performance ship propellers at our Mecklenburger Metallguss GmbH (MMG) location in Waren (Müritz).

MMG propellers are manufactured using advanced casting technologies and backed by in-house design expertise and precise hydrodynamic calculations. Our modern production facilities and skilled workforce ensure that each propeller meets or exceeds the quality requirements of all major classification societies.

Our retrofit programme sets standards. What began as a pilot project has developed into a global programme, with over 660 vessels now operating with redesigned MMG propellers. These upgrades typically reduce fuel consumption by 7–8% — and by up to 14% in some cases — helping operators to reduce emissions and improve economic performance. As this fleet continues to grow, so do the annual CO₂ savings, which already exceed 3 million tonnes per year.

MMG also addresses the growing significance of underwater radiated noise (URN). Our espro® and espro silent designs offer propeller solutions that reduce noise emissions while maintaining hydrodynamic efficiency and operational reliability. Optimised design and advanced cavitation control enable us to meet performance and environmental standards.

Our manufacturing processes are constantly evolving. In addition to sand and centrifugal casting, we are integrating additive manufacturing techniques such as automated welding and large-scale 3D printing to extend our capabilities and improve precision.

At MMG, we combine tradition with innovation to develop propulsion solutions that enable shipping to be more efficient, silent and environmentally responsible.

Because we care about propulsion.

Products & Services

Ship propellers from MMG have been setting the benchmark for decades in terms of design, size, quality and efficiency. The key to our success are individually designed propellers which are fit perfectly to vessel type, hull, engine and operating profile.

By using innovative technologies we guarantee design quality and production accuracy for products that are unique worldwide.

However, our product range goes far beyond this, as we also manufacture large-format components made of copper and aluminum alloys according to individual customer requirements (e.g. impellers for pumps or spindle nuts for large presses). Our portfolio also includes all types of centrifugally cast components.

Redesign / Retrofit

1.      Redesign / Retrofit-Propeller retrofit & redesign: Optimizing your fleet in-service

Looking for a way to increase your fuel efficiency and reduce your vessel´s overall operating costs?

The saving potential through slow steaming is exhausted as most vessels already operate with reduced speeds. Furthermore, the EEXI regulations require additional efficiency improvements in order to meet the CO2 reduction goals. The solution to optimizing your fleet in-service is simple: MMG retrofit propellers offer additional potential to reduce fuel costs and CO2 emissions.

Good reasons for a retrofit propeller

Exchanging the existing ship's propeller with a retrofit propeller tailored to the new operating profile significantly increases efficiency and simultaneously reduces fuel consumption. In combination with our innovative MMG-Escap® propeller cap, ship owners can achieve fuel savings of up to 14 percent. With MMG rebuying your old propeller, the return on investment can be achieved after six months already.

Your benefits at a glance:

  • Average fuel saving between 6% and 10%

  • short ROI

  • EEXI & CII compliance measure

  • Fast and effortless changeover

  • Best propeller quality

  • Worldwide maintenance services

MMG escap®

1.      Small cap. Big impact.

Little attention is paid to the propeller boss cap as part of the propulsion system. However, with a sophisticated design, also the propeller boss cap can contribute to increasing the efficiency of the ship's propulsion system. There are many possibilities.

Are you planning to build a new vessel or do you want to retrofit your existing fleet? We will be happy to advise you and develop a suitable solution with you.

With the innovative escap® (Energy Saving Cap) from MMG, shipowners can increase the efficiency of their ship propulsion systems by up to 3%. Unlike conventional propeller caps, the MMG escap® has an ingenious fin design that untwists the hub vortex and simultaneously reduces torque loss.

The MMG escap® propeller cap is not only suitable for newly built propellers. It is also the ideal solution to make existing propellers noticeably more efficient. And because the investment required is manageable, the return on investment can be achieved after a very short time.

MMG escap®: Fast installation. Worldwide service.

Whether as a retrofit for an existing propeller, in combination with a MMG redesign or as an extra as part of the construction of a new ship. MMG organizes and supervises the assembly of the escap® quickly and worldwide.

Your benefits:

·       Fuel saving of up to 3%

·       Very short ROI

·       Simple and fast installation

·       Reduced cavitation on rudder

additive manufacturing

MMG's production capabilities continue to grow steadily in the field of additive manufacturing. Both in conventional 3D printing in the plastics sector and in additive manufacturing of metal, we are setting standards in component size.

MMG is offering XXL-objects manufactured by a XXL FDM 3D-printer. With its printing dimensions of 2m x 2m x 2m (l x w x h) it is one of the largest industrial 3D-printer. The printer is capable to print high speed with a high geometric accuracy. The filament-based extruder allowes a high flow rate up to 100mm/s (0,9kg/h).

Mecklenburger Metallguss GmbH mainly uses the plastic PLA (polylactic acid) for printing, as it is cost-effective, recyclable, laminable, easy to print and compatible with inorganic and organic molding materials. In addition to PLA and PETG, other commercially available plastics can also be processed. The machine is used for a wide range of tasks, e.g. printing of casting patterns and functional samples of any components.

Hybrid Manufacturing Process

Design and manufacture of small and unconventional geometries is not limited to casting anymore. The MMG HMP supports individual products made from a wide range of materials. The HMP increases the flexibility in the production process.

Using our plastic-based 3D-printing technology it is possible to create individual patterns up to a size of 2x2x2 m. In the metal sector, arc wire welding can easily manufacture spare parts such as tips or even small individual propeller geometries simply and perfectly, giving MMG‘s efficiency a new level of flexibility. From individual parts to small series, different materials can be combined with each other in order to utilize the advantages of the respective properties in a targeted and cost-sensitive manner.
